Midsummer

Already it's midsummer,
Juicy cherries and soft
Fragrant fleshed mangoes
Have come and gone.
Now is the time of moist apricots,
Dewy peaches and crimson plums.
Soon figs and sweet melons
Will refresh our sated palates
And summer bounty will end
With grapes and pomegranates.
What earthy luscious delights
This season cornucopia has been!
Why does it need to finish so soon?
I wish it would never end,
But everything has an end date.
